Pastel was the medium of choice for Impressionists—Degas, Cassatt, and

others who valued its immediacy and luminous color. Working in pastel

connects this practice to that lineage while developing the observational

foundation that enables all my work.

Life drawing teaches how to see, how to translate form into mark. These

classical techniques bridge centuries of artistic tradition with contemporary

practice. The skills developed here inform everything I create—from piñata

landscapes to cultural still lifes.
