Echo Park Lily Pads

Echo Park Lake in Los Angeles is one of my favorite places to plein air paint. Inspired by Monet, I capture the reflection off the water—a moment of tranquility in the urban jungle of L.A.

Lily pads float across deep blue water, their green forms creating rhythm and pattern like Monet's Giverny pond transplanted to East LA. The reflections shimmer and dance, breaking apart into abstract brushwork where water meets sky. This is an urban oasis where families gather, where you can forget the city for a moment and just watch light play across water.

Working in the tradition of impressionist plein air painting, I document this pocket of nature within the city—a democratic space where everyone can access beauty, where pond and palm trees coexist, where reflection offers both literal and metaphorical pause.
