Piñata Covid19 Awareness

A vibrant piñata donkey stands resilient against a golden background—created during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as a symbol of hope, cultural strength, and community awareness. This piece was part of California's "Your Actions Save Lives" public health campaign, using art to reach communities hit hardest by the pandemic.

The piñata—symbol of celebration and togetherness—took on new meaning during isolation. While we couldn't gather for parties, quinceañeras, or birthdays, this colorful figure reminded us of what we were protecting: our ability to celebrate together again, our families, our traditions.

Created in 2021 when vaccines were rolling out but the pandemic still raged, this painting bridges public health messaging with cultural identity. The bright colors against warm gold suggest optimism emerging from crisis, the piñata standing strong as communities stood strong—masked, distanced, but unbroken.
