Painted on location in Big Bear on February 27, 2025. This plein air landscape captures the serene beauty of a snow-covered forest floor—towering pine trees casting shadows across white snow dappled with sunlight, the cool blues and purples of winter shade.

Being an inner-city kid, access to nature and places like Big Bear was very limited growing up. Painting these mountain landscapes allows me to document the diverse beauty of California, expanding my practice beyond the urban streets of East L.A. to capture moments of wilderness and quiet.

Working in the style of impressionism, I use thick, expressive brushwork to convey the texture of snow, the rough bark of trees, and the play of light filtering through the forest canopy. Each stroke records a specific moment—the cold air, the crunch of snow underfoot, the stillness of winter.
