Clorox

I honor my mother and others like her. Her story represents so many who immigrated from Mexico to the United States, learned a new language and a new way of life. She embodies the immigrant spirit.

In this painting I bring together my two formative experiences: my life as a first-generation Mexican American and my career as a fine artist. I compose a traditional European still life, featuring a beautiful flower arrangement, but intermixed with the flowers are the tools of the trade of a house cleaner, equally beautiful.

The iconic Clorox bottle is instantly recognizable in Latino households—a symbol of cleanliness, hard work, and care. This piece celebrates the everyday objects that tell stories of home, family, and the dignity found in honest labor.

✦ ABOUT MY WORK

Through the medium of oil paint, I borrow techniques from Old Renaissance masters to provide a platform for stories unheard, people unseen, and places overlooked.

Clorox isn't just a cleaning product—it's a cultural marker, a shared experience across generations of immigrant families. By elevating it to the status of classical still life, I demand that working-class stories be seen with reverence.
