Fabuloso with Marigolds

Fabuloso's iconic purple bottle paired with traditional marigolds (cempasúchil) creates a contemporary still life that bridges everyday life and cultural tradition. This piece celebrates the objects that make a house a Mexican-American home.

I honor my mother and others like her. Her story represents so many who immigrated from Mexico to the United States, learned a new language and a new way of life. She embodies the immigrant spirit. In this painting I bring together my two formative experiences: my life as a first-generation Mexican American and my career as a fine artist.

The marigolds hold deep significance in Mexican culture, particularly for Día de los Muertos celebrations. Paired with Fabuloso—a staple in Latino households—it creates a dialogue between the sacred and the mundane, memory and daily life.

ABOUT MY WORK

Through the medium of oil paint, I borrow techniques from Old Renaissance masters to provide a platform for stories unheard, people unseen, and places overlooked. I pay close attention to aspects of everyday life, documenting stories of community, culture, and shared memories.

CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

Fabuloso is instantly recognizable in Latino households—a symbol of cleanliness, home, and care. These aren't just cleaning supplies—they're cultural markers, visual shortcuts to home and family.
