Homage to my Mothers Print

from $42.00

Homage to my Mothers

I honor my mother and others like her. Her story represents so many who immigrated from Mexico to the United States, learned a new language and a new way of life. She embodies the immigrant spirit.

In this painting I bring together my two formative experiences: my life as a first generation Mexican American and my career as a fine artist. I compose a traditional European still life, featuring a beautiful flower arrangement, but intermixed with the flowers are the tools of the trade of a house cleaner, equally beautiful.

This piece gives recognition to domestic workers—people often overlooked yet essential to our communities. The brooms, flowers, and cleaning supplies document the reality of working-class beauty. My mother's work ethic and her style of home decor inspire this painting, celebrating the dignity found in honest labor.
