Rosas y Escobas

Delicate roses alongside the humble broom—this still life captures the reality of Mexican-American working-class life, where beauty and labor exist side by side. The broom is a symbol of honest work, of domestic workers and immigrant laborers who clean homes and offices across Los Angeles. Paired with roses, it becomes a meditation on dignity and the objects that define daily life in our communities.

I paint to give recognition to the people often overlooked. This piece honors my mother and others like her—immigrants who learned a new language, adapted to a new way of life, and embodied the immigrant spirit through their work ethic and resilience.
