Mariposas, Flores, y Escobas

Butterflies dance among vibrant flowers and humble brooms—a celebration of beauty and labor intertwined. This piece brings together the delicate and the practical, honoring the everyday objects that define Mexican-American homes.

The butterflies represent transformation and migration—the journey of our parents and grandparents seeking a better life. The flowers symbolize beauty, care, and the altars we build to remember. The brooms remind us of honest work, of hands that clean and create homes filled with love.

I paint to give recognition to the people often overlooked—domestic workers, immigrants, the hands that keep our communities beautiful. This still life elevates the ordinary into art, reminding us that dignity exists in all labor.

✦ ABOUT MY WORK

My artwork is a visual diary of my lived experiences as a first-generation Mexican-American artist, rooted in East L.A. I use classical oil painting techniques borrowed from Old Renaissance masters to provide a platform for stories unheard, people unseen, and places overlooked.

✦ SYMBOLISM

Each element tells a story: mariposas (butterflies) symbolize souls and transformation, flores represent beauty and memory, escobas (brooms) honor the dignity of working-class labor. Together they create a meditation on heritage, work ethic, and cultural pride.

✦ PERFECT FOR

- Honoring immigrant stories and working-class beauty
