The piñata is the elephant in the room.

"Toro Alone in a Landscape" is part of my piñata series — a portrait of myself, my community, and anyone who has ever felt like the other. Depending on who is looking, the piñata becomes a celebration or a protest. It inhabits spaces where it is not commonly seen. And yet it stands — bold, confident, defiant.

The piñata brings the exotic. It brings color into spaces that would otherwise remain muted.
