This painting reflects the roots of my artistic journey, beginning when my mother and I moved to Montebello during my middle school years. In that neighborhood, we built a community that felt like family even when our relatives were far away. Montebello was where I discovered my passion for art through supportive mentors and educators, but even before I entered galleries and museums, the murals I saw during car rides with my mom inspired my journey.

As my mother launched her own cleaning business throughout my adolescence, I grew to admire her work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit—qualities that continue to shape my practice. This painting honors the immigrant families, blue-collar and domestic workers whose hands labor to create a better life for their loved ones.

By portraying those who are often overlooked, I celebrate the dignity and beauty inherent in their everyday work, acknowledging that my mother's hard work gave me the freedom to pursue my dream of creating fine art.
